Sunflower Season Mae Hong Son Thailand Travel Guide

Sunflower Season Mae Hong Son Thailand Travel GuideThe cool season is once again upon us and the wild-sunflowers are bursting into bloom at Mae Hong Son’s Doi Mae U-Kho. The incredible sight starts this month as the sunflowers start weaving a golden net over surrounding hills and valleys. The wild sunflower – bua tong in Thai – is one of Mae Hong Son’s most popular tourist attractions and this year the provincial authorities have taken the initiative of holding a Bua Tong Festival. This has now started and will run until December 15. There are two places where travellers can join the festival: one is Doi Mai U-Kho, in Khun Yuam district and the other at Doi Mae Hoh, in Mae Sariang district. This festival is extremely lively, and offers a wide variety of entertainment including exhibitions, local performances, sports, games and stalls arranged by local hilltribe people.
